Jennie Tian

Somatic Experiencing + Coaching

Jennie Tian is a neurodivergent, Chinese-American woman with a trauma history, striving to make the world more livable for people left behind by our mental health systems. She developed a commitment to health and equity early on through growing up between China and the Bay Area around folks dedicated to the arts, healing, and justice work. Years later, it led her to support people in exploring their neurodivergence and moving through traumatic stress by working with the nervous system as a certified leadership and trauma coach.

She founded her coaching practice, Body Works Coaching, based on the foundation that the body works as it’s intended to, with the goal of introducing nervous system care to individuals and organizations in order to make life and work safer. Prior to that, she led Learning & Development programs and managed grant portfolios for philanthropic organizations centering anti-racism and equity.

Jennie is certified by the International Coaching Federation and is training to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. She also holds a M.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, and a B.S. in Microbial Biology from the University of California, Berkeley.

What to expect to accomplish at the end of SE/Coaching engagements with me:

For 1:1 coaching, as a baseline, you can expect to gain tools to better sense into your body. Depending on your nervous system’s capacity and the amount of time we have together, you will also likely build your capacity to experience difficult emotions and sensations. While I cannot promise specific outcomes, you can generally expect to feel more attuned, at ease, and less overwhelmed by the same things. This also applies to leadership coaching, as attunement leads you to identify how you want to show up quicker.

For organizations, this varies more based on the topics we choose. With every engagement, we co-design specific objectives up front. Your team can generally expect to improve your understanding of how nervous system physiology impacts how you work and lead, as well as strategies for how to implement this knowledge going forward.
